Milkvetch Root, also known as Astragalus, is a general term for plants and Chinese medicinal materials. Raceme axillary, small pedicels covered with black bristles; calyx bell-shaped, calyx teeth 5; corolla butterfly-shaped, light yellow; stamens 10, 2 bodies (9+1); ovary sparsely pilose. Pod membranous swelling. Semi-oval, apex spike-like, covered with black short hairs, 5-6 seeds, kidney-shaped, black. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruiting period is from July to August.


2. Mengbai Astragalus is a perennial herb. The stem is erect, with branches in the upper part. Odd-pinnate compound leaves alternate, with 12-18 pairs of leaflets; leaflets broadly elliptic or elliptic, with pilose below; stipules lanceolate. Racemes axillary; calyx campanulate, densely pubescent, with 5 calyx teeth; corolla yellow, flag petals oblong-obovate, wing petals and keel petals have long claws; stamens 10, two bodies; ovary with long stalk . Pods membranous, semiovoid, glabrous. The flowering period is from June to July, and the fruiting period is from July to September. Born in sunny grasslands and hillsides.


Difference: The shape of Astragalus mongolica is very similar to the above species, the main difference is that there are more leaflets, 12-18 pairs, smaller, and the leaflets are usually oval. Ovary and pods are smooth and glabrous. the

It is mainly produced in Shanxi, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Hebei and other provinces. It is also distributed in Sichuan, the former Soviet Union, North Korea and Mongolia. Astragalus membranaceus is mainly distributed in Northeast China, North China, Gansu, Sichuan, Tibet and other provinces; Astragalus membranaceus is mainly produced in Inner Mongolia, Shanxi and Heilongjiang; it is now widely cultivated.
